Are Salads Healthy for Everyone?

Not really.

Salads are great when:
~ it's hot out and you need to cool down
~ you're not sick
~ you don't add a ton of rich salad dressing
~ you can digest it well
~ you add lots of veggie varieties
~ it's organic, fresh, crisp

Salads are not great when you're just starting to
switch over to a healthier lifestyle.

Why?

Because if your diet has been eating hamburgers, chips,
and all other processed fast foods, it's a major stress
to have a salad. You'll end up with a huge bloated belly
along with lots of gas. I know I wouldn't want to be
around you!

I've found that when eating salads when I'm relaxed,
have time to chew well (salads take a long time to
chew did you ever notice?), or just feeling too hot to
eat anything else.

Instead, eating slightly steamed veggies if the weather
is 50 degree's or colder is easier on your body. The
steaming takes a little bit of the cellulose and breaks
it down so it's easier for your digestive system. It
also feels more nurturing to eat veggies steamed when
it's been a long stressful day at work!

After awhile, when you're feeling stronger, it's
fine to have all the salads you want. That's when the
true healing takes place - absorbing the nutrients
from the fresh veggies is key to health.

Until next time,
Dr. Judy
