Yep! 60 minutes confirmed what I've been
saying for years! Sleep (also known as 'rest')
will help to:
~ keep your body metabolism so you don't eat so
much (did you ever notice how you eat more the
more tired you are?)
~ keeps your mind sharper
(the 400 college kids studied remembered way less
information if they had only 4 hours of sleep -
so much for pulling those all nighters!)
~ having 7-8 hours of sleep also showed it kept
disease away. After only 6 days of sleeping four
hours a nite, young healthy college kids showed
the first signs of diabetes! In only six days!!!
Listen folks, sleep is absolutely essential.
it's the natural cycle God created in us to
help our body repair and rebuild itself. Nothing
is more essential than a good night's sleep.
There are lots of ways to get great sleep:
Here are just a few:
~ don't eat late at night
This is the time your body needs to rest! Eating a
heavy meal makes your digestive system work overtime
which is why you wake up groggy the next morning.
If anything, eat a light fruit and a few raw nuts.
~ Relax a few hours before bed.
Cleaning the house at night is not the best thing
to do before bed. Taking a hot bath, going for a stroll,
watching a funny movie, all help to relax your body
before you catch those zzzzzz's!
~ Drink a cup of hot camomile tea
This is one of those teas that is perfectly safe
to drink and has nice mild flavor. A small dab of
honey makes it even more flavorful. A cup or two
throughout the day is nice to have to keep your
body calm and even keeled. An hour or two before
bed will make for a sound sleep.
So with all the studies that the medical
establishment is doing on the necessity of
7 to 8 hours of sleep, I would strongly encourage
you to work on getting your hours in.
Until next time,
Dr. Judy
